The Better Way

darkness runs deep through these coarse veins
I'm stilled by the ruins of ancient pains
this world crumbles a seashore bliss
the comfort of I forget amiss

her eyes so plainly a new dawn
forbidden streets I prance upon
take me down security
chain the beast that lives in me

into Your Word I must retreat
the life you give making complete
guard my heart-set my path straight
Jesus, Jesus the better way

New Moon

Alcoholic burn won't sweet this speech
no rest on lips with ash blunt heat
never tweak this scene with root again
nor corrupt this mind with thinking men

clarity still water cool stream refresh
spirit calming Heaven's breath
new newness born anew
replace the lie with all that's true

knowing nature is revealed
ending mysteries being filled
Holy Spirit burn away
that old man of yesterday

create a new me
head and heart
so I reflect
the Morning Star

His Light Reward

dung
past successes
superficial recesses
the great achievements from my hands
left behind

PRIZE CHRIST

not that I have in hand
though pressing on
I reach
outstretched hand to receive
His Light Reward

My Judas Me

betrayer
of my Christ like-mindedness
so concerned for the welfare
of my ego image self
recognition accommodation
breathing in the choke me dust of my glass house living space
my eye planks write across the mural sky
speck finding nose turned up so
violation judgements
the weight of my scale
condemning praise breath
"Is it I?"
sneaking stealth
pockets full of worldly wealth
glamorous self-righteousness
gluttonous greed for eyes on me
"Is it I?"
my own familiar friend
in whom I trusted,
who ate my bread,
has lifted up his heel
against the only good I carry
"Is it I?"

dark impulse

dark impulse
no self-control
consumed rampant desire
a beauty soft touch lust...
ruined ruinous in ruins
energy bones valley
muscle tight desert dry
mind gap think off focus
found shame guilt ashamed for me
realize enemy inside real eyes
light hater
world lover
wicked embrace
must turn away from natural falls
seeking treasure mind of Christ
